Schott Perfecto® Model 118 – A Timeless Icon
The Schott Perfecto® Model 118 is more than just a motorcycle jacket—it’s a piece of American history. Originally introduced in the late 1940s, this legendary three-pocket design was known simply as the “Perfecto®” or the Beck Model 999, manufactured by Schott. The iconic coin flap pocket started as a custom option in the early '50s before becoming a standard feature by 1955. This led to the birth of the Perfecto® One Star, a jacket that would soon define an era.
The Jacket That Defined Rebellion
Marlon Brando cemented the Perfecto® in pop culture when he wore it in the classic film The Wild One, embodying the ultimate symbol of cool. The jacket quickly became associated with rebellious youth, to the point that school boards across the U.S. banned it for an entire year in the mid-1950s. But instead of fading away, this only fueled its popularity—young rebels saved every penny to get their hands on one.
Originally retailing for $50 (equivalent to about 100 hours of work at 50 cents an hour), the Perfecto® was an investment in attitude, freedom, and style. By the 1960s, it had become a staple in the rock ‘n’ roll movement, worn by legends who shaped music history.
Even as demand soared, Schott remained true to its roots, expanding their production while keeping the craftsmanship and quality intact. Today, Schott continues to manufacture this iconic American classic, with a family member still present in the factory to uphold Irving Schott’s legacy.
Premium Naked Cowhide Leather
The Perfecto® 118 is crafted from premium naked cowhide leather, known for its superior comfort and durability. This top-grain cowhide features a naturally tight open pore structure, giving it a softer feel without sacrificing strength. It undergoes a full aniline, drum-dyed process, preserving the natural grain while giving it a subtle, semi-matte finish.
Unlike toggle drying, this leather is vacuum-dried, resulting in a slightly firmer texture that softens beautifully with wear, allowing the jacket to develop a unique patina over time.
